About Denise North
I work with senior leaders – CEOs, directors, chairs, and executives – who are navigating the kind of decisions and challenges that cannot be solved with frameworks or templates.
Senior leaders who carry the most weight are often the least supported
The leaders who seek out Denise are capable, experienced and under pressure. They are accountable for outcomes that matter — to boards, to teams, to stakeholders, to themselves. What they need is not another framework or a generic coaching program. It is a thinking partner with the lived experience to understand what they’re carrying — and the insight to help them move forward.
Denise brings three decades of board-level, executive and advisory experience across corporate, government, professional services and for-purpose sectors. As an AICD-accredited facilitator and experienced leadership coach, she works with CEOs, directors, chairs and senior executives across Australia.
A career built across sectors, roles and levels – all of it informing the work I do now.
Non-executive director and chair roles across corporate, government, professional services and for-purpose organisations. Currently Non-Executive Director of Evergreen Lifecare and First Nations Place Names Limited, and board member of the INSEAD Directors Network. Former Chair of Streetwize Communications and the Australian Fisheries Management Authority’s Audit & Risk Committee.
Chief executive and senior executive roles leading organisations through growth, change and complexity, across professional services, telecommunications, government and community sectors.
Executive leadership coaching and board advisory for CEOs, directors, chairs and senior leaders navigating transitions, governance challenges and strategic complexity. Combines 30 years of lived experience with a structured, evidence-based coaching framework.
Presenter at AICD and Associations Forum panels. Contributor to the St James Ethics Centre. Active in alumni communities at International House, INSEAD and AGSM. Experience mentoring AGSM final-year students and supporting employment-ready programs through Talent RISE.
Leadership at the senior level is not about frameworks. It’s about clarity, judgment and the capacity to lead through uncertainty.
The best leaders maintain clarity under pressure, make hard decisions with limited information, and lead with both confidence and humility. They are committed to outcomes — but balanced by a healthy measure of detachment that allows them to see the bigger picture.
Governance is not a compliance exercise. It is the structure that enables an organisation to make its best decisions, consistently. Boards that function well are strategic assets. Boards that don’t are liabilities.
The leaders who perform at their best are the ones who have a trusted thinking partner — someone with the experience to challenge assumptions, the insight to ask better questions, and the judgment to know when to push and when to listen.

Denise North Consulting is strengthened by a non-executive director who brings board-level fluency in digital transformation and business technology.
Helen Belshaw
Helen is a digital transformation leader who works at the intersection of business strategy and technology. Her value to a board is specific: she can take a commercial question and trace it down to the technology decisions that will make or break it — and equally, translate an emerging technology trend into plain language about what it means for strategy, risk and value.
Her career spans management consulting and senior industry roles across shipping, life sciences, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing. She currently leads innovation and digital transformation for a leading Danish design and engineering consultancy — a 4,000-strong global business where her remit covers large-scale technology infrastructure and enterprise-wide digital strategy.
Helen brings to the board a perspective informed by her work with clients navigating digital disruption, business transformation and the technology questions that increasingly sit at the centre of board-level decision-making.
If you’re navigating complexity at the senior level, I’d be glad to help
